Digital Forms

The paperless office has been a promise and dream of information technology since its early beginnings. When we fail to implement simple steps to reduce paper use in an organisation, for example, by simply turning all printers to a default double-sided print queue, can digital forms really reduce the environmental impact of paper use? Many of us are now used to filling out simple forms online, but as the technology to collect more advanced and varying types of data become available, the digital form can not only reduce the amount of paper we consume, but also speed up business processes. In the case of insurance claims, once the form has arrived in the post and the claimant has remembered to fill it in and return it, the insurance companies aim is to process and pay the claim as soon as possible. Mistakes, late forms, and queries all lengthen the process and increase frustration to the consumer and cost to the insurer. Digital forms replace that initial paper exchange and as the data is digitised at source, it can be emailed, stored and moved around an organisation much faster and efficiently. In addition, by simply turning out print queues to double-sided printing we can reduce paper use in an average office by 40%.
