In the main, there is no such thing as Green IT; the phrase, we believe, reflects a strategic imperative for ensuring the maximum efficiency of every IT deployment, and using IT to influence the efficiency of people and other business resources. For example, video conferencing is only truly green if it takes people off roads and planes to meet remotely; if it is underutilised and sits idle in empty rooms on standby then it is simply another drain on energy resources. A server that is highly efficient in terms of its own power consumption is only ‘green' if it is maximised to the full, running as many applications as possible i.e. not sitting idle and underutilised when it could be doing more.
