- Reduce the cost and number of public sector data
centres
- Reduce the cost of duplicated back-office
systems
- Increase the efficiency of ICT delivery teams
- Reduce the cost of ICT infrastructure support and
maintenance
Government has already realised it has too many
data centres, and too many servers, storage, and networking
infrastructures supporting too few users. The consolidation of data
centres, and the technology within those data centres, is going to
be one of the major areas for budget savings across UK public
services.
Local, community, regional and national shared service data
centres must become a reality, and once public services are sharing
the physical building, then sharing the systems and applications
held in them is a natural next step.
G-Cloud is a major government initiative to create on-demand and
shared ICT infrastructure across the public sector, and we will see
G-Clouds springing up all over the public sector in the coming
years.
Logicalis’ Shared Services Data Centre and G-Cloud Architecture
lays out the physical, technology and operational architectures
needed to deliver at a local, community, and regional level. Based
on our PSN experience, and having created a
‘G-Cloud ready’ infrastructure in our own data centres, as well
as private clouds for individual public service customers,
Logicalis knows that rapid adoption of these major cost savings
initiatives is possible today.
