21st Century Learning
Modern technologies are revolutionising the way in which we
work, play and learn. The advent of Web 2.0 technology and the
expectation of visual communication, bi-directional or one way,
real-time or on-demand is creating myriad new ways of teaching and
learning.
Telepresence and Videoconferencing is facilitating real-time
2-way communication with anywhere in the world Video capture and
playback technologies, alongside the capability to store huge
amounts of data is facilitating on-demand video playback of
virtually any content a person is able to create.
New technology in the transcoding and transcribing of media is
allowing the words spoken in a recorded video to be used as search
indices and as subtitles. If you need to find a video clip about a
subject, search for a phrase and you'll be taken not only to the
recording, but to the actual part of the recording where the phrase
was spoken.
It has never been a more exciting time for the use of technology
in teaching and learning, and Direct Visual with over 10 years
experience in providing visual communications solutions to
education is your best partner in deploying these solutions.
Distance Learning
At Direct Visual our motto is ‘move information not people'. We
can help to create and provide access to learning when the source
of information and the learners are separated by time or distance.
Whether it be to overcome a lecturer shortage, absent students or
to involve people from outside of the learning environment. Direct
Visual creates teaching and learning environments specifically to
serve the purpose of educating people where the teacher is not
necessarily in the same location. This attention to details has
allowed Direct Visual to build some of the largest educational
networks in the UK, such as the Welsh Video Network, University of
Highlands and Islands Millennium Institute and the Shropshire
County Council schools network.
Field Trips
Sometimes the learning experience is considerably enhanced by
Field Work or involvement from “content providers”. In Primary
Education we can offer access to national and international
locations; places of interest, museums, dinosaur museums, exotic
destinations, outer space, and even finding Nemo at the Great
Barrier Reef from your Primary School. No travel expenses, no
transport needed, no risk assessments……..same result.
Employer Engagement
The 2008 report of the National Council for Educational
Excellence recommended that every school and college should have an
effective partnership with employers. The report states that
"Employers should support the delivery of a new National Framework
for business education partnership so that by 2010, every primary
and secondary school and college should have an effective
relationship with business'.
Videoconferencing provides an excellent means of building
effective partnerships by extending the breadth and depth of
industry to be available for engagement with individual
schools.
