The CRN Women in Channel Awards take place every year to shine a light on the IT leaders, influencers, exceptional employees and role models who will inspire the next generation. We’re extremely proud to have five of our wonderful women in the shortlist. Meet Amanda, who is nominated for the Unsung Hero award.
Name: Amanda Nelson
Job title: Head of Sales Support
Nominated for: Unsung Hero
What’s your favourite part of the job?
What did you want to be when you were young?
A Teacher. For as long as I could recall I wanted to be a primary school teacher. I was destined to start college to gain my qualifications and at the 11th hour had a change of heart and ventured into office work.
What is your best WFH tip?
Overcommunicate. Be aware of people’s ‘show-face’. Often people can be having the worst day, but when they attend a scheduled meeting, they are able to apply a vail and not give away any of the tell tail signs they are under pressure. Find ways to communicate with your colleagues to support them as they will provide as much support in return.
What’s something interesting you have done during the COVID-19 lockdown?
DIY Projects. Build a bed frame to slot into an odd sized space in my son’s bedroom and decorated by bedroom… just waiting for the carpet fitter now!!
How have you acted as a role model to other women in business? And what do you think would encourage more women into technical roles?
I have never stood up as a role model, however I am aware that how you behave and conduct yourself can be impressionable to colleagues in the workplace and I try to ensure I am approachable and helpful. I’d like to think that this is something that in in-built and hopefully recognised by my friends and colleagues.
Congratulations to all of the very worthy shortlisted nominees who have worked hard to be in a position where they are considered for such a prestigious award. We’re looking forward to this year’s virtual awards ceremony on 14-15 October, where we’ll find out who will be lifting the trophy!
